Achievement 6 Start a Collection

After two week without meeting in our dens this week we are regrouping. I had asked the boys to bring in or start a collection to bring in our last meeting but give the lapsed time we reviewed Achievement 6 and hope to share our collections next week. We did have a fun time though working on Elective 1a (use a secret code). They boys took turns writing a coded message and solving one as well. Everyone got a turn and all the messages were nice and uplifting. So parents, If you could please help your boys with their collections so they can be ready to share them with us next week. Also I will be sending out and email of everything so far I have asked the boys to do for homework and a reminder of what they need to bring next week, so please look for it.

Service Project

This time of year it is always a nice time to think about others so Julianne Taylor, our awesome den leader, organized service opportunity for our scouts. We meet at the Tuckahoe Community Center. They scouts made a craft project and help put together food baskets for some elderly and people in need in our community. They worked hard and got a lot of work done. I hope the boys had a great time and felt good about the help they gave. Next week we will not have a den meeting and I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Achievment 7 Your Living World

Your scouts did great this week. As we reviewed Achievement 7 they boys knew quite a bit about recycling and saving energy. Although we review all the most of them need to be done at home to have them signed off. We did complete 7f but the rest are homework. We also had some extra time on our hands and were able to pass off a few electives. We completed electives 17a (tie a square knot), 17b (tie your shoelace with a square bow, 17f (learn to tie a necktie), 22a (say hello in a different language), and 22b (count to 10 in a different language).

Achievement 8 Cooking and Eating

This week the wolfs learned about nutrition and cooking. Betsy Ricks taught the boys about the food pyramid and how to set a proper table. They played a game and now know what side of the plate a spoon, fork and knife belong. Betsy helped the boys accomplish requirement 8a but the rest of them need to be done at home.

We also learned how to make 123 peanut butter cookies.
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. peanut butter
1 egg
mix thoroughly and roll into 1 inch balls
roll balls in sugar and bake at 350 until bottom turns golden brown
When the cookies come out of the oven place a chocolate kiss in the middle.
Every boy helped make cookies and did a great job.

We also discussed what they needed to do at home this week to complete the rest of Achievement 8 at home. Please help your sons with requirements 8b, 8c, 8d and 8e. Align Right Justify Full

Know Your Home and Community

This week I have a new assistant. I am so excited to be working with Betsy Ricks and know we will have a great time working with our Wolfs. We also worked on Achievement 4 requires some homework but we did most of it in our meeting. We went over 4a but could not complete it because I could not get my printer to work so we will finish it up in our next den meeting. We also discussed 4b-what to do if someone comes to the door and wants to come in, 4c-tell what to do if someone calls on the phone and 4d what to remember when leaving your home. You would be proud of your boys, they knew all the answers and then some. Home work was 4e-with your family make a job chart and 4f-Visit a historic or government location. I suggested the post office or library. We had a guest speaker as well this week, my husband, Tanner Johnson. He is PM for a construction company and spoke with the boys about construction and some of the equipment they use. Tanner helped us pass off Elective 8a and got us excited about our much smaller building achievement.

Keep Your Body Healthy

This week the boys worked on Achievement 3, Keep your body healthy. 3a is to chart your healthy habits for two weeks. Each scout was given a chart to take home a fill out. If this chart did not make it home please email me and I will get you one. They must complete this to get Achievement 3 passed off. In our meeting we did complete 3b and 3c. We also worked on Elective 9b and hope to complete it in the next few weeks. Sorry no pictures this week.
